Become a CA DOJ CCW Instructor

To teach CCW classes in CA the California Department of Justice (DOJ) requires an instructor to receive a CA DOJ CCW Instructor certification. One of the ways to qualify to apply for this certification is to be an NRA Personal Protection Outside The Home (PPOTH) Instructor.

To be a PPOTH Instructor, the NRA requires you to first be an NRA Pistol Instructor AND an NRA Personal Protection In The Home (PPITH) Instructor.

NRA Pistol Instructor - May 28 & 29 = $400 (click HERE to register)

NRA PPITH Instructor - June 3 & 4 = $300 (click HERE to register)

NRA PPOTH Instructor - July 1, 2 & 3 = $300 (click HERE to register)


NRA Pistol Instructor - July 23 & 24 = $400 (click HERE to register)

NRA PPITH Instructor - August 6 & 7 = $300 (click HERE to register)

NRA PPOTH Instructor - August 13, 14 & 15 = $300 (click HERE to register)

You will NOT find prices cheaper than this.

The NRA Pistol Instructor classes include Basic Pistol, Basic Instructor Training, and Pistol Instructor.

The PPITH classes include PPITH and PPITH Instructor.

The PPOTH classes include PPOTH and PPOTH Instructor.

The instructor classes MUST be taken in this order: Pistol, PPITH, then PPOTH.

If you are already an NRA Pistol Instructor, you don't have to take it again.

These classes must have a minimum of 4 students and a maximum of 12.

Here are the other steps you will need:

Obtain a Certificate of Eligibility (before or after PPOTH class)

Fill out and submit this application (after you take PPOTH class)
