To purchase a firearm in California, you need to have a government license called a firearms safety certificate, or FSC. Go to any California certified Firearms Instructor or to most gun shops and ask to take a firearms safety test. The test costs $25 and consists of 30 questions. You must get 75%. Your test will be graded immediately and if you pass, you get a firearm safety certificate, which allows you to purchase guns in California for up to five years. Being in possession of a valid California CCW license eliminates the need to have an FSC.
