Keep Your Finger Off The Trigger Guard

Keeping your finger off of the trigger is one of the four universal rules of gun safety. But placing your finger on the trigger guard is an insufficient fulfillment of that rule. Your trigger finger should be high and tight on the slide, not on the trigger guard and not on the trigger frame. A startle reflex can cause your fingers to involuntarily clinch. If your finger is on the trigger guard, you can still inadvertently discharge around by clenching your finger onto the trigger.
