March 29 to April 5, 2019 is known in California as freedom week. This is a period where standard capacity magazines (over 10 rounds) were legal to import or purchase in California. During freedom week, millions and millions of standard capacity magazines were imported and sold in California. Magazines acquired during this period remain legal to possess.  Freedom Week was created when Judge Roger Benitez of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California ruled that the state's ban on high-capacity magazines was unconstitutional in the case Duncan v. Becerra. Following the ruling, a week-long window existed before an appellate court stay went into effect.
