A shotgun makes a wonderful home defense tool. Assuming you are using 00 buck, every time you pull the trigger 8 to 12 projectiles leave the muzzle. Each of those projectiles is the size of a .380 handgun round and traveling at the same rate. Shotguns can be technical and need practice. Is not meant for somebody who doesn’t know what they’re doing. Contrary to popular myth, you must aim your shotgun. The spread of the shot is not so great that you can simply hit fire and hit your target. The myth the shotgun will not go through. Lots of drywall is incorrect. A 00 buck round will travel through as many pieces of drywall as a 9 mm handgun. As with all firearms, use it for its strengths and practice frequently. Don’t count on Hollywood myths or gun guy misconceptions when using any firearm.
