Keep Your Finger Off The Trigger Until Your Sights Are On Target

Writer's picture: Mike PettengillMike Pettengill

Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target. When you are pulling your gun from the holster, keep your finger straight. When you are putting it back in the holster, drift your trigger finger and insert the weapon. Always keep your finger straight and off the trigger. It doesn't matter if you think the gun is loaded or unloaded, keep your finger off the trigger. Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you point in, then place your finger inside the trigger guard and on the trigger. Once you've engaged your target, come down to the ready and take your finger off the trigger. Keeping your finger off the trigger is the ultimate safety. Even if you forget all the other safety rules, but you keep your finger straight and off the trigger, you and everyone else are still safe.
