Sul Position

Writer's picture: Mike PettengillMike Pettengill

Here is how and why you would use the Sul position with your handgun. Sul is "south" in Portuguese, and you will see that is the direction the gun is pointing, south or downward. You butterfly your two hands at the thumb. This causes the support hand to rest perpendicular to the gun against your belly or your chest and causes the gun to extended downward. You see the muzzle of the gun is pointed down, so you are not going to point the gun at anyone near you. But it is not pointed straight down at your toes. It is at an angle. When you are in the Sul position you can quickly butterfly your fingers out in the opposite direction and use it again. The Sul position to walk around and ensure you are not pointing the gun at known or unknown good guys or bad guys.
