In the 1980s Colonel Jeff Cooper created the idea of the scout rifle. This was a conceptual rifle thought of by Cooper as the answer to the question, what if you could only have one gun to accomplish everything. The lightweight, bull barrel, bolt action, magazine, fed rifle was thought of as the ultimate in everything… Self-defense, hunting, portability, etc. The scout rifle is optimally chambered in .308, a round capable of taking out an elk at several hundred yards or a man inside of a home. The scout rifle has a practical sling, and is no more than 39 inches long with no more than a 19 inch barrel. Ideally, it would weigh less than 7 pounds. It has a low powered, long eye relief scope. It is thought of by many as the ultimate truck gun or the gun you would want when TSHTF.
